Ebay Quit Giving Me Option for Mobile Upload

UPDATE iii-31-22

I've confirmed Visual Search by image has been restored in the latest updates to both Android and iOS versions of the eBay app.

However, the search results are even worse than when I had tested information technology before.

Previously testing with just this mousepad, the image search pulled upwards results for fleece blankets - at present it brings upwardly drinking glass sculptures and vases.

Also previously when I added a mouse to effort to give the AI more than context, that worked and the results were by and large mouse pads or mouse and pad combos - now the event is motorcar parts and accessories.

It looks to me similar this near recent version of the search by image function is very focused on shapes - notice in the first example the red chili pepper calorie-free is similar in shape to the turtle fin on the mousepad and in the second example the gear shift knob and door handle are similar in shape to the mouse.

For comparison, Google Lens correctly identified and returned results for sea turtle and most chiefly, the 1st result is an exact match.

So yep, the eBay image search function is back simply it remains to exist seen if it will be an improvement or really useful to buyers and sellers.

If you've tested out the latest version, let us know your results in the comments below! You can even postal service a screenshot. 😉

UPDATE 3-30-22

A seller in today's weekly community chat said they've seen reports on social media that some users accept the visual search function back in the mobile app.

Re: Community Chat, March 30 @ one:00 pm PT - General Topics

I've been seeing posts on social media indicating that some sellers have had the camera icon (visual search) restored to the mobile app'southward search tool. At present, I have Voice and Bar Code icons, merely non the camera. Is this being rolled out? Or are these sellers just function of a new test? I know…

I know a lot of sellers (and buyers) would like to see this restored to the app.

Jasmen@eBay confirmed the update has been rolled out to the iOS app and Android volition be coming shortly.

I'm being told right at present it's only available on Apple products and will be coming to Android shortly!

UPDATE 3-24-22

I got excited for a minute when I saw that the notes for the eBay Android app mentioned the search by image function - unfortunately information technology looks like eBay simply forgot to remove that from the clarification at the aforementioned fourth dimension they removed it from the iOs app description. 🤦

Unfortunately, eBay has all the same not provided any official announcement or updates about restoring this critical tool that was widely used past both buyers and sellers.

Obviously those "inconsistencies" are proving to be trickier than they originally idea.

UPDATE: 1-11-22

While eBay hasn't provided any official updates or announcements, today's eBay for Concern podcast did shed some more light on the outcome.

In the Q & A segment, Rebecca asked Griff:

Rebecca: I pulled this adjacent question because it defenseless me by surprise. eBay seller Kimberly asked. How-do-you-do Griff. Thank yous for continuing your podcast. I enjoy listening. My question is why did eBay take off the search past photo? I know that I can use Google for the same type of feature, but information technology was great to find items correct on eBay. eBay's photo search was a fleck more accurate and was a big time saver. Please suggest it'southward return presently. All the best Kimberly. What, what is Kimberly talking well-nigh here?
Griff: Okay. So in the research for this, I confess, I had no thought that what we call Visual Search, it was launched back in 2017, was removed from the app, but I checked my iPhone and indeed it is no longer there.

So concerned me, I contacted at our Product Squad and they informed me that because of some inconsistencies that popped up with the feature at the end of December, they had temporarily removed information technology from the app and they had to do it speedily because they didn't want these inconsistencies to keep showing upwards, but they're working to get it back, fixed ASAP.

So that version of the Visual Search, they should have it back upward and running very soon. But he also told me that they actually planned to relaunch a new and improved version of Visual Search later on this year in 2022. So stay tuned for that. And yes, it did work really well and it worked a lot amend than Google's. I admit it. And so, yeah, so it worked really well, merely Kimberly, cheers for noticing.

This is the first I've heard of eBay acknowledging information technology was removed due to "inconsistencies", likely the issues with it returning 0 results that some users have reported.

Hopefully they become the current version back upwardly ASAP and I can't wait to see what they have in store for the new and improved version later this year!

UPDATE 12-27-21

I've at present seen ii reports from users that say prior to being disabled, the image search part was experiencing technical issues that caused it to return 0 search results in fault.

Re: Prototype search option in the latest version of the app?

Also, this final couple weeks I noticed that it kept giving me a 0 for results in some things I knew for a fact was on Ebay. If I tin't go a moving-picture show of an detail, and then get a value, I might not put it on & then not only exercise I lose coin but Ebay is losing money. This is badly needed.

eBay has non specified if this was the reason for removing the option, but and so far that is the only thing resembling a reasonable cause that I've found.

The lack of communication and transparency on this issue is disappointing, but non surprising.

UPDATE 12-24-21

Even so no boosted information from eBay equally far as why this characteristic was disabled or when it may be bachelor once again. Sellers who used this feature to look upwardly items on eBay may want to effort other options similar Google Lens.

Google Lens - Search What Yous See

Are in that location other tools sellers can use to search items by photos? Permit me know in the comments beneath!

It appears eBay has quietly disabled the search past image characteristic in both the Android and iOS versions of the mobile app.

Users in the eBay customs noticed later a recent app update they no longer have the power to search past image.

Previously it was possible to perform an image search in the eBay app by using a photographic camera icon appearing the search bar, and from in that location choose to have a picture, select a moving-picture show from the gallery, or browse a bar code.

In the latest version of the eBay app, I now only come across the option to scan a bar code; no icon for the camera or options for image searches in the search bar.

Has the characteristic been moved elsewhere, or has it been removed entirely from the eBay app?

Others have noticed the omission lately as well.

The official answer from an eBay employee was:

Thanks for the question. The image search functionality has been temporarily turned off for both the iOS and Android apps. If you lot see other posts mayhap they could exist linked to this ane.

There has been no caption for why this feature was of a sudden removed or any indication of a timeline for when it may be re-enabled. Customs staff indicated it is a temporary situation, but Twitter support was less than forthcoming about the possible future of the paradigm search choice.

eBay introduced the prototype search characteristic in 2017.

An Easier Way to Search eBay: Computer Vision with Observe It On eBay and Image Search Is Now Live

Powered by AI, our new features employ pictures instead of words, making it easier for shoppers to find the things they honey.

I've personally had mixed results with the paradigm search. I tested it once using a body of water turtle mouse pad. The original results failed to recognize either the turtle or the fact it was a mouse pad, instead returning items that were all fleece blankets of various sizes - some with an aquatic scene of some kind but nothing even close to matching the actual item.

Placing a mouse on the pad to try to give the AI some context clues did return listings for mouse pads and mice, but no sea turtles or  aquatic themes.

Hopefully eBay has temporarily disabled the search by image characteristic because they are working on an update that volition provide more accurate results.
