What to Prepare Before the Wii Jailbreak
To jailbreak Wii smoothly, you need to prepare a few things in advance. Here we list them as follows:
- Nintendo Wii console
- An SD card with at least 1GB space or MicroSD card reader (non-SDHC if possible)
- A computer with an internet connection
- An external USB hard drive or a USB drive larger than 32GB (to install apps and games on)
- Wii firmware version 4.3 (It is the latest firmware version Nintendo released for Wii)
Tip: You can check the Wii firmware version at the top right corner of the Options menu. If it's not version 4.3, open the Wii System Settings window, go to the third page, and select Wii System Update.
How to Jailbreak Wii
How to jailbreak a Wii? This process is relatively long and complex. To make the Wii jailbreak more easily and quickly, we divide this process into the following 6 short parts.
# 1. Find the MAC Address on Your Wii
First of all, you need to exploit Wii by imputing the MAC address of your Wii into the "LetterBomb website". By doing so, it will download the customized exploit package automatically for your Wii.
Here's how to find the MAC address of the Wii and exploit it:
Step 1. Open the Wii System Options and locate the Internet menu on page 2.
Step 2. Look for the Console Information in which the MAC Address of your Wii is located.
Step 3. Click here to open the LetterBomb website and do the following things on the screen.
- Select 3E for the System Menu Version
- Enter the MAC Address you just get from the Wii
- Tick the checkbox for Bundle the HackMii Installer for me
- Tick the checkbox for I'm not a robot
- Click the Cut the red wire button
# 2. Format Your SD Card to FAT32
You need to format your SD card and external hard drive to FA32 for storing the Modpack and games. It's very simple to format SD cards to FAT32 in Windows.
Note: Formatting the SD card will delete all data. So, make sure you make a backup beforehand.
To do so, connect the SD card to your computer, press the Win + E keys to open File Explorer, right-click the SD card from This PC and select Format, and then select FAT32 from the file system drop-down menu and click on Start.
Sometimes, however, Windows built-in tools fail to format the SD card to FAT32 if the storage space is larger than 32GB. In this case, you may need a professional formatter like MiniTool Partition Wizard. Step 1.Launch the MiniTool software to enter its main interface, select the SD card from the disk map, and click onFormat Partitionfrom the left pane.
Step 2.SelectFAT32from the file system drop-down menu, and you can set itsPartition Label andCluster Sizebased on your needs. Click onOK.
Step 3.Click onApplyto execute the operation.
# 3. Extract the Contents of Modpack and LetterBomb to the SD Card
In this part, you need to unzip all contents of both Modpack and LetterBomb into the SD card. The Modpack is a zip file that contains a bunch of mods and loaders used for jailbreaking. Don't save the zipped files on the SD card directly, only the contents.
To do so, right-click the modpack.zip/LetterBomb.zip file and select Extract all, then click on Browse and select the SD card to unzip the files into it. Once extracted, your SD card should look something like this:
# 4. Jailbreak Wii Using the SD Card
Now, let's see how to jailbreak Wii U using the SD card. Follow the guide below carefully:
Step 1. Insert the SD card into your Nintendo Wii console and open the Wii System messages, and you will see 1 new message.
Step 2. Browse to yesterday's messages and the red LetterBomb icon should show up here. If you can't find that, click on the Calendar to open the whole month and you can see all the messages.
Step 3. Click on the red LetterBomb icon with the Wii remote pointer. Then Wii will install Hackmii and LetterBomb.
Step 4. When the installation is done, you will see a message saying "Press 1 to continue". Follow the on-screen instructions to continue.
Step 5. Now, you should be on the HackMii Installer screen. Here you will see Continue is highlighted. Don't click on it or you will be dumped out of the installer.
Step 6. Use the D-pad on your controller to locate The Homebrew Channel and click on the 1 button to install it. Once done, click on Exit.
Step 7. Go to the BootMii section and click on the A button to install it. After you have installed all of them, exit the HackMii Installer screen and it should take you to the Homebrew Channel screen. If not, start the Homebrew Channel.
# 5. Make a Backup (Important)
If something goes wrong or breaks, you may lose data on the Wii. So, it's highly recommended you make a backup before doing anything else. You can save the backup to the SD card and then copy it off the card to somewhere else.
Step 1. Open the Homebrew Channel screen and press the Home button on the remote, and select Launch BootMii.
Note: You can't use the Wii remote when the BootMii is running. So, you need to use some of the buttons on the actual Wii. If you have a Gamecube controller, you can also use it.
Step 2. Press the Power button on the Wii 3 times to locate the last item of the menu and press the Reset button to select it.
Step 3. Press the Reset button again to select the first item and follow the on-screen prompts to start creating the backup.
Step 4. Once the backup is saved to the SD card, copy the backup files of the card into another location safe.
# 6. Install Loaders and Mods on Your Wii
At the last stage of the "how to jailbreak a Wii U" section, you need to install loaders and mods on the Wii. To do so, follow the steps below carefully.
Step 1. Go back to the Homebrew Channel screen and you will see a bunch of loaders and mods.
Step 2. First, you need to install Wii Mod Batch. Use the Wii remote to select it and click on Load. Here you will end up with a black screen with a bunch of mods installed.

Step 3. Go to the Priiloader section in the Homebrew Channel screen and select it just like the Wii Mod Batch. To install Priiloader, press the + or A button on the Wii remote. Once installed, you can install a bunch of hacks.
Step 4. Press the Reset and Power button together on the console to get into Prilloader, and then use the D-Pad on the remote to move to the System Menu Hacks screen.
Step 5. Now, you can enable the following recommended hacks and any others you want. Then go down and select Save settings and exit.
- Auto press A at health screen
- Region free everything
- Block disc updates
- Block online updates
- Remove NoCopy Save File Protection
